Of course, there are ways to obtain a copy of Adobe Photoshop without paying for it, but that's not really the right thing to do. Fortunately, you don't have to break the law to get the same features for free.
GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It's a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. Essentially, it's an open source version of Photoshop and offers many of the same features.

If you've used Photoshop or other image editing software before, you should be able to pick up GIMP's way of doing things fairly quickly. If not, you can check out some tutorials: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
